Bathroom Basics
The Eve Series
Sydney, NSW, Australia
An essential ingredient to your daily routine, your bathroom is most likely where you will start and end your day. Whilst it needs to be as efficient and practical as possible, a well considered design scheme should also create feelings of a serene and relaxing retreat, adding a sense of luxury to your daily routine. If your bathroom is overdue for an update keep reading for our favourite local designer offerings.
Basin by Archier
Designed as a collaboration between Archier and local Tasmanian ceramist Lindsey Wherrett, this Basin makes a feature of elegant curves. It’s smooth rounded shape retains the imperfections of it’s handmade origins, with unique variations in size and form only visible when you look ever so closely. A raised basin will always give a sophisticated edge and in regard to this design means an opportunity to fully appreciate the tonal surface. There is an earthy appeal to Archier’s basin, it’s subtle rawness forming the perfect contradiction to rigid lines of cabinetry and tiling grids in the surrounding bathroom.

Mabel Round Marble and Brass Taps by Wood Melbourne
Traditionally thought to be basic bathroom hardware, taps have come a long way by design standards. This ultra minimalist set from Wood Melbourne is a perfect example of highly considered and elegant design, transforming the ordinary to a statement fixture. When it comes to bathrooms it is all in the detailing to create an overall sense of polish, Wood Melbourne’s crafting of marble and brass offer exactly this. The Mabel can also be customised to incorporate their selection of tap spouts or alternate materials to tailor this fixture to your project.

Lunar Wall Mirror by Doherty Design Studio
Consider a wall mirror as art for your bathroom and opt for daring geometric shapes and contrasting materials. The Lunar Wall Mirror is a great compliment to your contemporary bathroom fitout. Another collaborative project, this one is by local Melbourne studio Doherty Design and Grazia and Co. It’s eclipse like laser cut arc shape will offer a subtle reference to rounded basin designs or tapware, whilst creating a sense of space with it’s expansive width and reflection of light.

Vieques Bathtub by Artedomus
Essential for recreating that spa-like retreat at home, a bathtub is worth investing in if you have the space to afford it. As it is can be an overwhelming feature of the space choose wisely, opting for smooth clean lines and classic forms that will remain timelessly modern. Our pick is the Vieques Bathtub from Artedomus, with it’s contemporary simplified form, nod to industrial heritage through it’s ribbed steel make and vertical edging making it a space economical fit for restricted spaces. Contrasting exterior and interior colour options enable you to make this feature as subtle or statement making as you like.

HD3 Wall Lamp by ISM Objects
As mentioned above, details truly make your bathroom come alive. Often overlooked, your lighting choices are a prime opportunity to elevate your space from a design point of view. Wall lighting such as the HD3 Wall Lamp from Melbourne studio ISM Objects offers hardware that accessories solid forms as well a key opportunity to create drama through targeted lighting, a must for the bathroom’s nocturnal use. We love the HD3 for it’s playful bubble like bulb and utilitarian hinge design, colour options including more sophisticated metals and monochromes or pops of orange, teal and olive for more saturated palettes.

Now all that’s left is a few softening accessories, towels and textiles and perhaps an indoor potted plant or two to soften up the hard surfaces in the space. Your bathroom is a great challenge to let your design detailing do all of the talking rather than relying on accessorising so be sure to choose quality finishes and feature forms that speak to your design aesthetic.
