When it comes time to invest in key pieces for your home it can be hard to know where to invest and what to look out for to ensure that the furniture you select is long lasting yet stylish. Starting today in the Bedroom, we will be stepping you through our best tips for selecting timeless, design forward essentials that will form the base layer for your room.

Bed base

Let’s start with the obvious… your bed frame will more than likely last you many years and outlast several décor updates so it pays to invest in something classic. Taking a minimal stance is always a great way to go as there is always the option to change up linen or small décor around it to add flair. Look for simple clean lines and timeless materials such as a raw timber or if you prefer an upholstered design a neutral linen will form a nice soft base to your bedroom styling. We love the York Bed by Totem Road for it’s stripped back geometric design which is given a softness by the raw, sustainably sourced timber.

Bedside

Bedside tables are one of the most functional pieces of furniture in your bedroom but are also a great opportunity to make a design statement. The design you chose will really set the tone for the style of your space. Ensure practicality by aiming for some storage, like our favourite, Lil by Melbourne designer Made by Morgen, to tuck away those bits and pieces that accumulate and keep the space feeling clear.

Bedlinen

Selecting the right bedlinen is key not only from a decorating stance but to ensure that your bedroom is conducive to the best sleep possible. There’s just no beating natural fibres as they breathe and last a lifetime if cared for properly. Whilst there are endless options of cotton and linen bedding, a set of white cotton sheets are an essential building block that will never tire. IN BED recently released a line of 100% cotton percale sheets which will give any bedroom that dreamy-comfort experience.

Lighting

Statement bedside lighting will elevate any bedroom styling. Hard edged metallics and feature forms make the perfect contrast against soft linen bedding so don’t be afraid to select something remarkable. Matching hanging pendants will create instant drama otherwise a standing bedside lamp will set a more intimate mood. The handmade Surface Sconce by Henry Wilson marks the perfect contradiction of eye catching gunmetal and organic forms to create an ambient sculptural statement.

Shelving

Shelving is prime real estate in the bedroom so a supplement piece like a console is key to maintaining order. A sturdy timber design is well worth investing in as it is yet another piece that will survive many styling trends and be with you for years. Sleek designs and minimal detailing will be everlasting and a prime example of this is the Dali Shelves from JD.Lee Furniture‘s latest collection release.
