From BuildHer
The striking façade sets the tone at Bayview house – the charm of a grand Edwardian home combined beautifully with a modern and spacious architectural transformation. This extraordinary residence represents luxury living and timeless tranquillity.
Bayview House respects and accentuates the classic period details of the home while also embracing a modernity that represents the way we live here in Melbourne. As you enter Bayview House, walk the beautifully restored hallway and find your way to the open plan kitchen + living + dining, your eye instinctively makes its way up the large glass windows towards the wonderment of a soaring ceiling which brings with it an abundance of natural light and warmth. The meticulous attention to every single detail delivers a spacious gallery-like home over two levels perched at the top of Ruckers Hill.
BuildHer Collective, Beirin Projects, Justine Murphy and award-winning architects, Bellemo & Cat have combined beautifully to create inviting interiors throughout Bayview House, illustrating the flexibility of living that is possible in this fabulous family home and of course incorporating the all-important void which is a design favourite to use!
BuildHer Collectives, Rebeka and Justine, feature the brilliant relationship between carefully chosen textures and tones throughout the interior, focusing equally on beauty and practicality. The natural materiality has been carried throughout the project from existing timber flooring to flowing stones and limestones creating character and speaking to texture and tone in the most beautiful of forms.
Bayview House offers two living areas with two entirely different feels yet acting in concert represents sophistication at its best. A moody formal lounge with references to the seventies explores the eclectic mix of using contemporary and reclaimed furniture to create the ultimate entertaining conversation space while the newly designed and constructed open plan living and dining area boasts bespoke pieces that encourages modern family living and dining which co-exist in harmony.
An elegant entertainer’s kitchen including a butler’s pantry was designed with entertaining in mind. This of course is a home to be celebrated and to celebrate in. With inbuilt appliances including two fridges and beautifully detailed joinery for days, this entertainer’s kitchen is the perfect partner to the open plan living and dining area. The attention to detail and care given to its design, its functionality, practicality and beauty are equally matched. Particular care taken to carry lines and texture right throughout the home and throughout all its surfaces and finishes.
The second level study which again features well designed joinery taking into account the need for storage also includes a beautifully placed built in bench seat and overlooks the open plan living and dining area atop of the void. This cleverly allows for separation as well as integration as required and its neighbouring retreat come guest suite with its impeccably designed ensuite is a wonderful capture of how playing with angles and shape can create such incredible and noteworthy detail. The second level certainly allows for flexible living. Quiet. Simple. Good design.
The master suite with its stunning lead light feature window is partnered with a carefully considered walk in robe and utterly calming and luxurious ensuite you could forgive yourself for thinking you might actually be in a day spa. Tranquillity, simplicity, no detail has been spared. The three further double bedrooms offer flexibility and feature well designed joinery helping to encourage the idea that there is a place for everything and that living simply and clutter free is a real possibility.
The family bathroom with its fluted glass window and deep moody navy blue colour palette combines the perfect balance of shine and matt finishes. It’s well thought out floor plan and the custom designed and built vanity considers functionality at its best. This bathroom will make you stand up straight and appreciate every single design feature. It is refined yet dramatic at the same time, something we were keen to showcase and this was the perfect home to do so.
The real beauty of this renovation for us were the existing features we were able to retain and even reinstate plus the modern design features we were able to integrate. The raked ceilings which have been designed within the existing roofing; the original Baltic pine flooring which we had whitewashed; the limestone flooring which is carried from the interior to the exterior; and utilising the space above the new garage to create a striking terrace again with entertaining in mind.
