The 2018 Interior Design Excellence Award for Object – Furniture and Lighting (Professional) at the IDEA Gala on Friday was awarded to ZETR, with the judges’ comments remarking on the designs’ simplicity and genuine innovation.
Designed locally in Australia by Garth Elliot, ZETR is a new concept of electrical outlets, switches and accessories for contemporary architecture. ZETR’s No. 13 series is a recessed, trimless, completely flush range of switch grids and outlets designed to integrate with the specified finish for minimal interruption to the material and aesthetic.
Recognising that traditional electrical accessories, which are installed over the wall, were lagging behind the shift toward more integrated, trimless finishes, Garth tackled the challenge of designing a range of minimal, refined electrical accessories.
ZETR switch grids and outlets are designed to integrate with the specified finish for minimal interruption to the material and aesthetic.
“A seemingly simple and subtle reworking of a very standardised product by ZETR has recognised a hole in the existing Australian market”, said Kirsten Stanisch of the 2018 IDEA jury in her comments when awarding ZETR the award.
She continued: “These electrical outlets and switches have been designed with the key purpose of being camouflaged into any interior and they have successfully achieved this. This quiet design response allows interior designers to explore their design ideas without the clumsy intrusion of standard electrical outlets and ironically it is the subtlety of this product that makes it a major disrupter in the existing product market.”
ZETR products are perfectly suited to contemporary interior design.
The Interior Design Excellence Award category showcases the best in Australian furniture and lighting design with works judged on form, function and genuine innovation. In this category, ZETR was judged alongside a competitive field of furniture and lighting that occupy traditionally more prominent places in both interiors and awards. ZETR’s win in this category highlights the impressive contribution they are making to design in 2018.
“Thank you to everyone for specifying ZETR and for supporting Australian design”
