A responsive engagement of the senses, Random International’s Rain Room extended exhibition now open until end of October. Encased in March Studio’s Jackalope Pavilion in St Kilda, the interactive artwork is a must see.

Situated in the purpose-built Jackalope Pavilion in St Kilda, Melbourne, Rain Room is Random International’s globally recognised popular interactive exhibition. Designed as a 100sqm field of continuous rainfall, the convergence of technology, science and art come together to create this truly unique collaboration of creative ventures. Engaging the senses through sound, temperature and movement, the millions of droplets respond by omitting rainfall based on individual movement within the space. The resulting full immersion within such a unique environment is then further dramatized through the integration of strategic lighting and restriction of internal space, further exemplifying the drama of the experience.

The Jackalope Pavilion sees a permanent exhibition space in St Kilda, designed by March Studio and envisioned as a space for continual engagement with the arts. The pavilion is designed as an extension of the Jackalope Hotel brand and essence, which sees interplay of imagination, mystery and science. Partnering with ACMI (Australian Centre for Moving Image) to realise the exhibition, the Jackalope Art Collection is an ambition to boldly engage with transformative and immersive experiences.

The pavilion itself is designed in its permanence, as an architectural statement itself, expressing a sense of creativity and exploration through materiality and form. Within the pavilion are specifically designed ancillary areas, expressed through linear lighting elements, stainless steel encasing and monolithic feature elements. These all add to the drama of the experience, not just within the main exhibition space.
