Danielle Brustman's Melbourne based studio encompasses a broad spectrum of practice, from residential interiors and commercial design for the hospitality and retail sectors through to set design for performance and exhibition.
Danielle trained at RMIT Melbourne in the School of Architecture and Design, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design. Danielle’s approach to interior design synthesizes her cross-disciplinary skill set and expertise with innovation and vision. With a distinctive flair for colour, composition and form, her design portfolio presents a consistent visual language that integrates bold aesthetic choices with innovative spatial solutions. She applies these principles across a range of residential and commercial interiors along with commissions for bespoke furniture, objects, lighting and sets for performances and installations.
Danielle began her design career working as a set designer for theatre and performance collaborating with some of Australia's most celebrated theatre makers, companies and artists. In 2012, she established her interior design studio focusing on hospitality, retail and residential interior projects. Her background as a set designer is evident in her work where colour, light and spectacle play a vital role.
Danielle has been commissioned by an impressive list of clients throughout the commercial and arts sectors including: Amelia Shaw Bar, The Gem Bar, The Salty Dog Hotel, The Wonderment Studio, Vitality Beauty Bar, The Stylesmiths, Georgeous Occasions, Dark Mofo Festival, ArenaTheatre Company, Frankie’s Story, Andrew Long and Associates, The Malthouse, David Bromley Studio, L'oreal Fashion Festival, Bakehouse Studios and The Melbourne International Arts Festival
In 2016 her interior design work with Michelle Boyde (Brustman + Boyde) in collaboration with Dr. Pippa Dickson for The Salty Dog Hotel in Kingston Beach, Tasmania was shortlisted in the ‘Best Restaurant Design‘ category at the Eat Drink Design awards. In 2013 her interior design work for the Amelia Shaw Bar & Salon was shortlisted in the ‘Best Bar Design‘ Category at the Eat Drink Design Awards. In 2018, Danielle was nominated as a finalist in the Dulux Colour Award in the 'Single residential category' for her interior design work on the Matlock House.
Danielle has recently been nominated as a finalist in the pretigious triennial Rigg Design Prize. Recognising excellence in contemporary Australian design, the Rigg Design Prize is the highest accolade for object and furniture design in Australia. Her entry will be exhibited alongside some of Australia's most prominent and celebrated Interior designers and decorators at the National Gallery of Victoria.
