Poetics of Space: The Influence of Literary Works on Architectural Designs
The University of Queensland School of Architecture will host architects Kim and Monique Baber of architecture firm Baber Studio who will speak about the influence of Gaston Bachelard’s famous work, The Poetics of Space (1958), and other literary sources including David Malouf’s 12 Edmondstone Street, on their designs.
Bachelard’s famous work explored personal and emotional responses to buildings, both in life and in literary works. As a fusion of literature and philosophy, his thinking has inspired generations of architects, designers, and philosophers to investigate lived experience in buildings and their natural context.
Baber Studio has been commissioned to transform part of the Fryer Library of the University of Queensland into an object-based teaching space.
Join the presentation to hear Kim and Monique discuss their design philosophy and learn about this new project and how you can be involved.
