About

Indigeneity & Architecture

The University of Sydney School of Architecture, Design and Planning invites you to a symposium and book launch to mark the closing of the Tin Sheds Gallery Exhibition ‘Finding Country | Radical Practice’.

How can Indigenous perspectives on architecture and design theory and practice help us to build better cities? To coincide with the final day of the Finding Country | Radical Practice exhibition, join for a discussion exploring the design and delivery of spaces informed by indigenous values and identities. This symposium will also launch the book Our Voices – Indigeneity and Architecture publication, a new book featuring texts by Indigenous authors from Aotearoa NZ, Canada, Australia and the USA.

Finding Country is an ongoing architectural experiment by Brisbane-based architect Kevin O’Brien. The Finding Country: Radical Practice exhibition showcases thirteen years of collaborative practice, working towards re-engaging an Aboriginal conceptualisation of Country in our cities.

Date and time: Friday 15 June, 12pm – final burning performance followed by lunch; 1-2:30 – symposium session one; 3-5 – symposium session two and book launch

Location: Tin Sheds Gallery, 148 City Rd, Wilkinson Building, The University of Sydney School of Architecture, Design and Planning (See directions here)
